This is the image that started it all for me in landscape photography. I was with a friend of mine who likes to shoot sports and he was headed up to San Clemente to photograph some surfers on this big swell. I'm always looking to shoot different compositions than the ones that are obvious so as we walked up to this location I started playing around with multiple viewpoints and shutter speeds. The waves were 15-20ft and closing out the line up so I loved that the long exposures were creating these soft long lines of white up against the dark marine layer. The tide was going out fast so the revealing of the cobble stones added another dimension to the composition. As I was moving around the bikes I decided to set up just behind them to see how symmetrical they would frame out. As I was getting my tripod ready a surfer rode up and parked his bike to the right of the other five bikes, completing perfect symmetry with this collection of cycles.

People always ask me if I set up the bikes this way for the picture and they're always surprised that I didn't... It's just one of those moments that happen and I just happen to have my camera there to shoot it.
