"NINETEEN"

Sunsets during the winter in Southern California are breathe taken to say the least.  If you’ve never experience one before then it’s hard for you to believe the colors in this image. I remember this particular one extremely well not only because of the image I captured, but of a local woman who approached me right after the colors faded away. She could hardly contain herself over what she had just observed. She’s lived here her whole life and swears to me she can’t remember a more spectacular sunset. This caped off a week of brilliant sunsets that I happen to be out-of-town for… so to capture this one was really special.

The four ghostly figures on the left are actually two people walking down the beach. I captured this image with an 8 minute exposure so I could soften the water and get the clouds streaking by. During the 8 minutes these two people stop for a second to admire the sunset, then moved up the beach a little ways and stopped again, creating the ghostly effect you see. There’s also a couple of ghostly surfers on the right of the image but that did not stop long enough to fully expose their figures onto the sensor of my camera.
