This is a local surf spot with a large sandy beach. The tide going in and out of the jetty here is really beautiful. I've seen waves over 20ft. tall here on really large swells and at high tide, flood Pacific Coast Highway. Since I surf here often I get to see the changing of the beach and weather frequently. Every year is different and I always want to check this location when the sunsets start to light up in the late Fall and Winter time.

On this particular day I knew the sunset was going to be good. The weather was chilly, for Southern California, so I knew there wouldn't be too many people standing or fishing from the end of the jetty. The clouds were just the right height to capture the sun's rays so I set up my camera at the end of the jetty and waited for the color show. The wind was blowing straight into my face out of the west so I decided to take a long exposure to smooth out the water and get the clouds streaking straight overhead. Once the clouds started capturing the colors the sunset threw at them I knew I had a great image. To capture so many colors within a single frame is one of the reasons I like taken long exposures. The results are breathtaking!
