It had been twenty years since I'd been back to the Jacksonville Beach, Florida area. I had lived there in my early twenties before moving out west and was anxious to see familiar places and changes in the beach cities. To my surprise the area still resembled what I had remembered. A few more hotels and an upgrade to the pier boardwalk area was a nice touch. Since I wanted to shoot the beach I decided to head down the coast towards St. Augustine where I use to go surf to get away from the crowds during a big swell. Low and behold my old surf spot now has a parking lot, bathrooms and this boardwalk leading over the dunes from A1A. The old trees I use to park under are now gone and the beach is a favorite amongst locals.
Discovering all of this I decided to wait till Sunday night to get the beach absence of any human activity and produce a timeless image. This was the beach I remembered twenty years ago. No one around for miles and the ocean to myself. Man, have times changed.
